Private
Lessons in Piano, Voice, and Guitar - 5th Grade Through Adult
| Beverly Milder’s Musical Arts isn’t just
for kids. Approximately 18% of our students are adults. Nearly half
of our school is comprised of students in private lessons, which are
offered to adults, older students and those graduating from the Harmony
Road Music curriculum. |
Piano Lessons:
Private piano lessons are available to class program graduates, transfer
students and beginning piano students 5th grade through adults. Those
younger than 5th grade have graduated from our Harmony Road Music
curriculum classes. We teach all styles of music based on a classical
foundation of correct techniques, reading skills and theory. Students
play music from all periods and styles including classical, jazz and
contemporary. Many opportunities are available to students who want
to perform, as well as enter competitions. We want our students to
enjoy their lessons, but we also expect them to practice at home in
order to progress. Our faculty is qualified to teach beginning, intermediate
and advanced students. |

Voice Lessons:
Having a beautiful voice alone is not enough to sing well. Our goal
is to develop musically educated singers ages 5th grade through adults.
We assist students with how to sing properly so they can keep their
voices healthy for many years. We focus on four basic areas: |
 |
• Vocal techniques • Breathing
techniques • Sight singing, ear development, music reading,
and repertoire • Musicianship skills during the voice lessons
and at home. |
Learning to sing properly is only part of voice lesson training; learning
about music is the other important component. We help develop an accurate
sense of hearing (ear training), teach how to sight sing (singing
apiece of music the student has not previously seen or heard) and
focus on learning to read music. Since each lesson is recorded, students
can practice daily with their audiotape for music accompaniment and
instruction. Students typically sing from the following categories:
classical, popular and musical theatre. It is important for voice
students to develop a library of music suited to their particular
voice type. Since your entire body is the instrument, we strongly
believe in keeping healthy and physically fit. |
Guitar
Lessons:
We teach classical guitar using acoustic guitars with nylon strings.
Our focus is on note reading, chords and theory, as well as posture
and other techniques. Classical training gives students a strong foundation
in understanding everything about the guitar so that they can expand
their repertoire in the future to include rock, jazz, blues and popular
music. |
